Rycom Trading Ltd. signs MOU
WEST KELOWNA, BC - May 14, 2009 Rycom Trading Ltd. located in West Kelowna, BC and Mayerthorpe, Alberta based Cansource Biofuels Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that outlines plans for Cansource's plant expansion with the aid of Rycom as its exclusive marketing arm.
"Rycom and Cansource share a common desire to provide alternative energy sources to North America along with the viable introduction of cheap alternative feed ingredients," said Ryan Slozka, President of Rycom.
Located on property in the town of Mayerthorpe, Alberta, Cansource is being developed into a leading crusher of camelina in Canada. Plans are drawn for the addition of more expeller presses, feedstock and oil storage. Under the agreement, Rycom will be the sole distributor of both the oil and the meal produced at Mayerthorpe.
Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz (Camelina) is an oilseed producing plant in the Family Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) originating from the Mediterranean to Central Asia. Studies show that the oil content of the seed ranges from 37 to 41% making it ideal for further processing into biodiesel. Camelina meal (CM) is the by-product of camelina oil extraction and has a crude protein content similar to canola meal and is reported to be high in omega-3 fatty acids. Using expeller presses without solvent extraction results in approximately 9% of the oil remaining in the meal making it highly attractive for livestock feed.
